Portraits of Hope Studios a Resounding Success

Since launching in March, we’ve hosted three dynamic workshops, welcoming over 50 participants—including Lovelady graduates, local women, and their children. These gatherings have sparked creativity and fostered a deep sense of connection and belonging among everyone involved.

Our first workshop, held in March, was led by the talented Amy Peterson, whose passion for the arts made her the perfect host. Amy guided participants through a creative process of transforming art into handmade cards, using tissue paper and old hymns as the foundation. The results were beautiful and original.

In April, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lee Wilson, a celebrated Birmingham artist whose work is featured at the Beverly McNeil Gallery. Lee led a soul-soothing painting workshop where each participant created their own angel, guided by her gentle expertise. The session was both calming and inspiring, offering the women a meaningful opportunity for personal expression through art.

Our May workshop was hosted by Tabitha Frazier, founder of the successful handmade jewelry company, IdleWild. Tabitha brought a beautiful collection of charms—ranging from initials to crosses—and the women shared stories and laughter as they thoughtfully selected pieces to create their own personalized jewelry.

Misty Golmen, a Lovelady graduate, shared her experience:
“I loved the jewelry-making event! It wasn’t just about creating something memorable and beautiful—it was about connecting with those who pour into us in so many ways. Making that personal connection is an amazing experience. Thank you, Portraits of Hope, for organizing these events. There’s such a sense of belonging here. When someone like me gets to actually meet a donor or mentor and thank them personally, it’s so fulfilling and a real treasure. We get to live out the gospel. It’s beautiful. Thank you, ladies, and don’t stop being amazing!”

These first few months of workshops have been nothing short of inspiring. Each gathering has offered a unique opportunity for creativity, connection, and personal growth. Whether through painting, crafting cards, or making jewelry, participants have found joy in self-expression and in building meaningful relationships. As we look ahead, we’re excited to continue growing this community of hope, healing, and artistic exploration—one workshop at a time.
